What do BEV (battery electric vehicle) charger levels mean?
There are three levels of charger standards in the industry:
- Level 1 – Uses standard 120V power commonly available in residential homes. This method can take a day or days to fully charge a BEV.
- Level 2 – Often referred to as a “charging station” which can be portable but is typically mounted on a wall. This requires installation by a licensed electrician. A BEV can be charged overnight via Level 2.
- Level 3 – This is a high-power charging which can typically charge a BEV in an hour or less. Level 3 is not viable for residential installation.
