I Recently Moved to Another State. How Do I Change the License Plate, Title, and Registration on my Toyota Lease?
When moving your primary residence to another state with a leased vehicle, all states require you to re-register the vehicle in your new state, and most require that you re-title the vehicle. The specific requirements can vary from state to state, so please contact your state or county DMV, and let them know that you have a leased vehicle.
Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) or Toyota Lease Trust (TLT) must be listed as the legal owner or lessor on all title and registration documentation, and you remain responsible for all associated fees and expenses with the associated paperwork.
If you’re moving to a state that requires you to re-title the vehicle:
- The state will generally require that the title holder submit the original title as part of the process of securing a new Certificate of Title. If TMCC or TLT is the title holder, your DMV will either send us or provide you with a request for us to forward the title to them.
- You will also need a limited Power of Attorney form to re-title your vehicle.
To request a limited Power of Attorney and to have any original title documentation sent to your new DMV, simply submit a request through our Support Center and let us know what you need. Most documents of this nature must be notarized, in which case they will be mailed to you.
To submit a request:
- Log in to the Support Center, here
- Click on “Create/View” under “My Requests”

- In the top right corner, click the “Create New Request” button, then follow the prompts on screen
- Select “Title/Registration Inquiry,” then “State Transfer” and include any details from your DMV

- Include any additional information we’ll need to ensure you have all the documents you need to complete the paperwork
