How can I take my vehicle with me if I leave the country?

If you’re leaving the country, it may be possible to take your vehicle with you, depending on your circumstances and how long your vehicle will be abroad. For example, if you are a member of the United States military or have accepted employment in a foreign country, permanent removal of your vehicle from the U.S. may be possible.

If you’re only planning on taking your vehicle to Canada or Mexico for 30 days or less, you may be able to take your vehicle with you.

To see the specific documents you’ll need, check out the situation that applies to you below. Then, once you have all your documents ready to go:

  1. Log in to our support center and go to the document upload page by clicking here
  2. Select the vehicle you wish to take with you from the account dropdown
  3. Then select “Permanent Removal” from the document type
  4. Add any details relevant to your request
  5. Upload your documents using the upload button

Once all required documentation is submitted, it generally takes two business days to process the request. Your request will either be approved or denied, or we may request additional information. Some products and services like GAP and other insurance policies may not be valid outside of the United States. Please review all policy documents for applicability.

If you are a member of the United States Armed Forces:

First and foremost, thank you for your service.

Before you can submit a request for permanent removal, these are the documents you’ll need to gather.

We will need a copy of your military orders, containing:

  1. Location of duty station
  2. Timeframe of your assignment
  3. The name and contact information of your commanding officer

We will also require proof of insurance coverage in your new country, including port-to-port transit insurance. Note that the VIN on the policy needs to match our Toyota Financial Services records, and the name and address of the Lien Holder or Loss Payee must be correctly listed as:

Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC)
PO Box 30203
College Station TX 77842-3203

If you are moving out of the country because of your job:

Congrats, and good luck with your new role. Similar to military service members, we’ll need you to gather some documents. Specifically, we’ll need documentation from your employer that states:

  1. Where your new job will be located outside of the United States
  2. The timeframe of your assignment
  3. The name and contact information for your direct supervisor or manager.

We’ll also need proof of insurance in the new country, including port-to-port transit insurance. On the policy, the VIN must match Toyota Financial Services’ records, and the name and address of the Lien Holder or Loss Payee needs to be listed as:

Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC)
PO Box 30203
College Station TX 77842-3203

If you are taking your vehicle from the United States to Canada or Mexico for 30 days or less:

Taking your vehicle out of the country for 30 days or less is considered a temporary removal. You may request a temporary vehicle removal if you are either the primary or co-borrower on the account. Be advised that we can only approve a temporary removal if you have made at least two payments toward your account, and your account is active and in good standing.

To request a temporary removal, log in to the Support Center and go to the documents upload section by clicking here. In the text box, let us know where you’re taking your vehicle and how long you intend to be gone for (30 days is the maximum without applying for permanent removal).

Once we receive your request, we will review your account and inform you of TFS’ decision within three business days.
